Introducing ADEKEMI ADENIYAN, a remarkable individual and a 2023 OMLA Fellow. She is a visionary rural dentist with a mission to break down barriers and ensure equitable access to oral health for underserved communities in Nigeria. As the founder and executive director of the Dentalcare Foundation, she is at the forefront of promoting oral health equity by providing free dental education and services to neglected areas.
Her OMLA Project, "Integrated Waste Management System for Sustainable Development," was carried out in collaboration with her Stars team. Through this initiative, Adekemi established an integrated waste management system in a rural market in Ekiti. The project's primary goal was to promote sustainable development and improve environmental sanitation. It involved a comprehensive approach that included waste collection, recycling, and awareness campaigns.
By tackling the challenges of poor waste management practices, the project successfully reduced environmental pollution and fostered sustainable behavior change within the market.

Erick Godfrey

Introducing ERICK GODFREY RAMSEY, a visionary leader and a 2023 OMLA Fellow from Tanzania. He is currently serving as the Founder & Executive Director of the Kijana Hai Foundation, an organization aiming to empower youth economically and mentally.
His project, School Environmental Conservation, aims to increase awareness among students about environmental protection around their schools and homes. With support from NELIS and the OML Secretariat, the project reached 2500 students from 1 primary school and 2 secondary schools in Zanzibar.
Through the project's training, students now understand the types of environmental procedures to take care of waste and have also formed clubs responsible for ensuring the safety of the environment. Each school involved in the project has received equipment such as dustbins and sanitizers, and in addition, they have planted shade trees and flowers.
The OMLA program has become an important platform for youth to increase their knowledge, skills, and networks. It is crucial that this initiative remains sustainable. The 80 youth reached by Erick have committed to using the skills gained from the OMLA Fellowship to address community problems.

Nahiri Jean Charles Nahiri

Introducing NAHIRI JEAN CHARLES NAHIRI, a distinguished 2023 OMLA Fellow. He holds a Doctorate of Letters with a specialization in Literature and Civilizations of African Anglophone Countries. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Program. Nahiri is currently contributing his time as a Global Lead at the International Christian Students Fellowship (ICSF Global) in Bouaké, Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa.
Nahiri and his team initiated the project "Fight against Smoking in the City of Bouaké." The project encountered a setback during implementation when they discovered that OMLA had approved it without funding. Despite this challenge, Nahiri and his team persevered, exhibiting remarkable determination and resilience. They engaged in collaborative teamwork and self-funded their community project, successfully executing it over the course of two days. During this time, they reached out to individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds, particularly those in influential positions, to raise awareness about the hazards of smoking.
Their dedication bore fruit as they orchestrated an impactful sensitization campaign. This campaign was strategically conducted in the city's largest marketplace, a hotspot for smokers, and at the local university, where one of the project's stars, a specialist in the field, delivered a lecture on "smoking." The event drew an audience of university students, young leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs. The initiative aimed to create awareness not only about the individual health risks of smoking but also about its broader implications for Ivorian and African youth – a valuable resource for the continent.
Throughout this project, Nahiri and his fellow OMLA Stars exemplified the potency of youth leadership and showcased their ability to instigate positive change within their communities.

Young Congolese Pharmacist and Co-founder of Health Bridge Foundation
Justin MUHINDO is a young Congolese pharmacist whose commitment to health goes beyond medical care. As the co-founder of the Health Bridge Foundation, he strives to ensure the health of rural populations in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Additionally, he is also concerned about climate action and community education, recognizing their importance for the overall well-being of communities.
OMLA Project: Manufacturing Biodegradable Packaging from Banana Fibers in the Fight Against Plastic Pollution in Bukavu
As part of his OMLA project, Justin led an innovative initiative aimed at combating plastic pollution in the city of Bukavu. In collaboration with his Stars team in the DRC, they demonstrated the dangers of plastic pollution and its impact on the climate. Moreover, they proposed effective and sustainable solutions to reduce the use of disposable plastics, while integrating community educational programs on climate action.
Through this project, Justin and his team highlighted the local manufacturing of biodegradable packaging from banana fibers, offering an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to traditional plastic packaging. Their exemplary work demonstrates how local initiatives can have a significant impact on reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable practices, while enhancing community awareness and education on climate issues.

Introducing MAIKEM VICTORINE, a dynamic 2023 OMLA Fellow and a dedicated software engineer with a profound commitment to leveraging technology for social good. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the African Leadership University in Kigali, Rwanda, Maikem is passionate about utilizing her expertise to drive significant technological advancements across Africa.
Her OMLA project, "Digital Literacy Initiative for Rural Youth," was conducted in collaboration with her vibrant team of fellow visionaries. This initiative aimed to empower young individuals in rural Kigali by enhancing their digital literacy, thus equipping them with essential skills to thrive in today's digital world. The project included comprehensive training sessions on the use of digital tools, critical discussions on the impacts of doomscrolling, and the broader implications of digital media consumption on mental health.
By addressing the digital divide, Maikem's project has not only provided practical skills to the youth but also fostered a deeper understanding of the responsible use of technology. Her efforts are a testament to her belief in technology as a powerful tool for education and empowerment, particularly in underserved communities.

Introducing SARAH ACHERO, a remarkable individual and a 2023 OMLA Fellow from the North East rural area of Uganda. Specifically, she hails from Soroti District, Arapi sub-county, Dakabella Otucho Village. Sarah is equipped with a Bachelor of Microfinance from Kyanbogo University.
One of Sarah's inspiring initiatives is "Educating girls on menstruation, menstrual hygiene use, and care for reusable pads in Otucho Village." This project aimed to address the stigma surrounding menstruation, which led to girls' absenteeism from school. By providing reusable pads and education, Sarah's project effectively tackled the issue of teenage pregnancies resulting from exploitative situations where girls were taken advantage of in exchange for menstrual products. Moreover, the training fostered good health and hygiene practices among the girls, contributing to their overall well-being.
In another impactful project, Sarah focused on "Reducing poverty in women of Otucho Village by training them on making liquid soap, bar soap, and entrepreneurship skills." Through this initiative, she empowered young women with practical skills, teaching them how to produce liquid soap and bar soap. The project directly benefited 15 women, and its positive effects extended to over 50 individuals within the broader community who indirectly benefited from the newly acquired skills.
Sarah's dedication and efforts have gone beyond transforming Otucho Village; they have also had a positive influence on neighboring communities. Her projects have made significant contributions to a better Africa by empowering women and promoting sustainable change.

Introducing ELVIS TURKSON, a dedicated leader and a 2023 OMLA Fellow from Ghana deeply passionate about effective public financial management and a firm believer in driving country development from the grassroots through community engagement. Currently serving as an Auditor
Elvis Stars' Project, known as the "OMLA Soft Skill and Entrepreneurial Training Program," was designed with dual objectives:
-Enhancing students' readiness for their transitional exams, particularly the Basic Education Certificate Examination, while concurrently refining their public speaking abilities.
-Equipping students with crucial entrepreneurial skills to empower their lives beyond their schooling years.
One of the main hurdles faced during the project's implementation was the formation of a dependable team that shared a collective commitment to driving change.
Throughout its duration, Elvis and his dedicated team showcased remarkable resilience and unwavering determination to accomplish their goals, even going to the extent of personally financing certain project components. In the end, the project's far-reaching effects contributed significantly to the realms of Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Poverty Alleviation within the community.
Undoubtedly, the transformed lives of the students involved serve as a compelling testament to the positive influence of this endeavor, ushering in an improved quality of life for the entire community.

Tafadzawa Muzira

Meet TAFADZWA MUZIRA, a distinguished 2023 OMLA Fellow. Armed with a BSc degree in Psychology. Notably, he is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Program 2022, a Climate Justice Summer School Alumnus in Nairobi, Kenya from 2021, a graduate of the Tony Elumelu Foundation's Business Management Training in 2022, and a respected alumnus of Restless Development organization. Furthermore, he earned recognition as the SNV Zimbabwe Grant Awardee for COVID-19 response in 2021, particularly for his contribution to sanitizer production.
Tafadzwa's leadership journey extends to his role as the former President of the Peer Counselors Club at Great Zimbabwe University. Presently, he dedicates his time and expertise as a Global Coordination Team member at the YOUNGO Climate, acts as the Ambassador for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility representing Africa, and proudly serves as the 1 Million Youth Action Challenge (1MYAC) Ambassador for 2023. He is also a Young Innovation Leaders Fellow for the same year.
Tafadzwa's projects "Strengthening food security" and "Fighting climate change in Harare south District in Zimbabwe" With the necessary funding secured, Tafadzwa and his team successfully executed a poultry production project over one month. Their project not only addressed pressing issues such as hunger and climate change but also engaged and educated over 20 young students from Grace Embassy College on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and tree planting projects. Additionally, they provided poultry production training to five youth, thus creating employment opportunities.
Tafadzwa faced a significant challenge during the project in terms of mobilizing youth for poultry production training, as some were attending college and had limited time for project participation. However, through unwavering dedication and commitment, he adapted to the circumstances and collaborated with available youth to implement the project, resulting in the successful raising of 50 broiler chicks.
Throughout this project, Tafadzwa and his fellow OMLA Stars exemplified the immense potential of youth leadership, demonstrating their ability to initiate positive change within their communities.

Meet the amazing Glory Uchechi Amadife, a fresh graduate of Economics from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and an award-winning project lead who has managed and executed projects across diverse backgrounds in renewable energy, blockchain technology, and education. Currently a Data and Business Analyst in training, she's also a student of Aspire Leaders Program by Aspire Institute and a Human Resources and Capital Management Intern at Global Citizenship Foundation.
During her fellowship with One Million Leaders Africa, she alongside her dedicated OMLA Stars team, spearheaded the transformative "Pad a Girl" project. This diverse team, originated from various Nigerian states, united with a shared commitment to creating a positive impact.
"Pad a Girl" emerged in response to girls' challenges in managing menstrual hygiene due to limited access to affordable sanitary pads, insufficient menstrual health education, and societal stigmas. Glory and the OMLA Stars, in collaboration with partners including the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Students' Chapter and Rethink Tech Ltd, passionately addressed these challenges.
To commemorate the INTERNATIONAL MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY and guided by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 3 - Good Health & Wellbeing, Goal 4 - Quality Education, Goal 5 - Gender Equality, Goal 6 - Clean Water & Sanitation, Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption & Production and Goal 17 - Partnership for Goals), the team educated the girls about menstrual health, engaged the community, advocated for policy changes, and distributed affordable sanitary pads to 200 girls. The project took place at Community Secondary School Nru, Nsukka, Enugu State, ensuring direct impact within the community.
The “Pad a Girl” initiative extended its reach beyond girls alone, it also included boys and educating them on gender equality and personal hygiene, fostering positive change within the community. Thereby making the total number of students reached to be over 500.
The OMLA Stars hailing from Borno State in the Northeast of Nigeria, also conducted a one-day broadcast at Al-ansar Radio and Television, sensitizing a broader audience on menstrual hygiene awareness.

Their determination paid off as they organized a transformative menstrual hygiene awareness activity at Victory High School in Jos, Nigeria. The initiative focused on educating female students about proper hygiene practices and provided essential sanitary pads to empower these young girls with the knowledge and resources they need for their well-being.

During her time as an OMLA Fellow, Mary's project centered around the critical issue of "Reducing Teenage Pregnancy in Agege and Egbeda, Lagos State." She had the honor of being selected as one of the five recipients of a mini-grant to bring her project to life.
With unwavering dedication to the fellowship's mission, she led a team of ten individuals in the execution of her project. The initiative involved enlightening teenagers about self-awareness, self-care, abstinence, and imparting skills in creating reusable pads. These educational activities took place at both the House of Mercy Orphanage Home and the Tunji Adebayo Orphanage Home.
The program left a significant impact, as participants gained valuable knowledge and underwent positive transformation towards becoming better versions of themselves.

In response to the troubling trend of tree depletion in their locality without any reforestation efforts. Their joy knew no bounds when OMLA not only gave their project the green light but also provided funding. Sunday and his team embarked on an educational campaign, highlighting the importance of tree planting through banners and T-shirts bearing the message "one house, one cashew tree."
Sunday and his fellow OMLA stars embarked on a noteworthy venture known as the "Cashew Farming for small scale farmers" project. They meticulously cared for 50 dwarf cashew seeds and generously distributed them to every household in the community, free of charge. Additionally, they designated students to regularly check on these trees, ensuring their healthy growth.
Sunday and his team firmly believe that this project will empower the community to take charge of their food supply, leading to increased self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of environmental and economic challenges.
Moreover, the deep-rooted cashew trees will enhance soil quality, effectively combating soil erosion. This initiative signifies a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future for their region, demonstrating their commitment to environmental and community well-being.

Introducing komlan Abalo, a remarkable individual and a 2023 OMLA Fellow. He is a visionary leader dedicating himself to the duties and activities that would contribute to the advancement of Africa.
His OMLA Project, "RIGHT LEVEL AND TEACHING WITH TCHITCHAO VILLAGE LIMITED RESOURCES" was carried out in collaboration with his star teams. The project's primary goal was to raise education standards and teaching in Tchitchao village where he lived and worked despite the limited resources.
Based on the observation that 75% of primary-grade students have poor learning outcomes, it has been determined that this is closely connected to their inability to read even a single word from a short text or perform basic 2-digit calculations.
To address this issue KOMLAN and his stars implemented Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodologies. His projects have made a significant impact on the people of his community.
