Our Story
In 2020, at the Next Leaders Africa Summit, a remarkable gathering took place. Over 200 young Africans from 30 different countries united — not just to discuss problems, but to reimagine Africa’s future. What emerged was a bold vision: a continent that thrives on sustainability, justice, opportunity, and inclusive leadership.
That vision gave birth to One Million Leaders Africa (OMLA).
OMLA started as a shared belief — that young Africans have the power, creativity, and heart to lead their communities into a brighter future. So we created a movement:
We’ve trained over 2,390 young minds from across the continent, equipping them with real-world skills in areas like climate change, food security, ICT, agroforestry, and waste management.
By 2030, we’re on a mission to raise and equip one million leaders who will transform their communities and reshape the continent’s future.
Africa’s leadership gap requires scalable,
grassroots solutions driven by young people.

Africa has the youngest population in the world; yet most lack access to civic education, mentorship, and real-world leadership opportunities. This gap holds back communities, economies, and the continent’s future.
Multiplier-based leadership
Our model equips Fellows to mentor 50 “Stars,” who then raise new “Starlets.” It’s a ripple effect that builds sustainable, community-rooted leadership at scale.
Lasting transformation
We’re developing a generation of socially responsible leaders equipped to drive solutions in climate change, governance, food security, education, and beyond — from the grassroots up.
We’re raising a generation of leaders to confront Africa’s greatest challenges — from the inside out.

OUR mission is to cultivate a league of young African leaders in training and supporting budding social entrepreneurs locally. By investing in youth, we’re building a movement that addresses Africa’s challenges from the grassroots
level.
